When most people think of Portugal, they immediately think of wine. You may be surprised to find there is an impressive cocktail scene in Lisbon, and a quickly growing craft beer scene.

From speakeasies to high end lounges, and everything in between, Lisbon has something for every wine, cocktail, and beer lover.

Cafe Klandestino

Closed as of May 2024 - but be sure to visit it’s sister bar Sneaky Sip (details below)

🗺️R. do Benformoso n256, 1100-087 Lisboa

💶€€

🏳️‍🌈LGBT Friendly

🕰️M-Fri 6p-2a. Sat 10p-4a, Sun 7p-1a

This “not speak easy” is the best speak easy I have found in Lisbon, so far. The cocktail menu, is one of the most beautiful and creative cocktail menus I have ever seen. Cool, cozy, and unique; Cafe Klandestino is a must visit for anyone looking for a unique, hidden gem.

The food menu is limited and pretty unique, but everything on it is amazing. especially the duck sandwich.

HUGE bonus points for having the best playlist in all of Portugal.

Sneaky Sip Lisbon

🗺️R. Gustavo de Matos Sequeira 42A, 1250-120 Lisboa

💶€€

🕰️Sun-Thurs 6p-1a

🏳️‍🌈LGBTQAI+ friendly

I selfishly hesitate to add this still-a-bit-of-a-secret spot to any “go see” list, but it seems it has made a Time Out list, so I guess the secret is out. Sneaky Lips is maybe the coolest bar in Lisbon (in my irrelevant opinion) and has the perfect unpretentious speakeasy vibe I love. The boast “Crafting Cocktails with Underrated Ingredients” and that is what adds to the fun of this place.

Imprensa Cocktail and Oyster Bar

🗺️R. da Imprensa Nacional 46, 1250-127 Lisboa

💶€€–€€€

🕰️Daily 6p-2a

Beautiful and delicious cocktails in a really cool space with fun bartenders. Great date night spot (see Bachelor #14) for drinks and bites. Awesome variety of signature cocktails and broad liquor selection. I am not a huge oyster fan, but the presentation was so beautiful, I had to taste a couple, and I am glad I did!

Pensão Amor

🗺️R. do Alecrim 19, 1200-292 Lisboa

💶€€

🏳️‍🌈LGTBQ+ friendly

🕰️Sun-Wed 12p-3a, Thurs-Sat 12p-4a

Probably the only bar I would recommend on Pink Street,
Pensao Amor is not just a bar, it is an experience. Not for the conservative, or prudent, this bar “is a unique experience, which invites you to inhabit the harlots’ rooms and discover the never revealed secrets of this old wharf brothel”.

Copa Barrafina

🗺️ Rua da Boavista 118, 1200-069 Lisboa

💶€€

🕰️M-Sat 6p-2am, Sunday closed

“A Cocktail Bar celebrating Cachaça and Latin American Spirits. Little sister to Copa Lisboa.”

I walked in to this tiny little bar when I had to kill time before dinner and am so glad that I did. The most beautifully curated cocktails I may have ever had. Unique, 100% handcrafted cocktails that featuring cachaca and a lot of love.

I loved this place so much that I returned with my friend after dinner and we stayed until closing.

Monkey Mash

🗺️Praça da Alegria 66 B, 1250-004 Lisboa

💶€€

🏳️‍🌈LGBTQ+ Friendly

🕰️Tues-Sat 6p-1a

I discovered Monkey Mash, thanks to Bachelor #19. The self description of this cool, kind of funky spot is “Inspired by modern and tropical environments, its main objective is the consumption of fresh, fruity, tropical and exotic drinks, providing a cool and uncomplicated environment” and I couldn’t agree more.

Definitely on the “higher end” price point wise, but worth it for the immaculately curated cocktails and very cool vibe.

⭐Reservations highly recommended

❤️Great date night spot

Red Frog Speakeasy

🗺️Praça da Alegria 66b, 1250-004 Lisboa

💶€€-€€€

🕰️Tues-Sat 6p-1a

You may notice the address for Red Frog is the same as the address for Monkey Mash, that is because this true speakeasy is in the “basement” of Monkey Mash.

A darker contrast to Monkey Mash, but only in décor. Red Frog is just as cool and the cocktails are just as thoughtful and delicious.

⭐Reservations are very highlighted recommended

❤️Great Date night

One of my favorite bars in Bairro Alto, Side Bar is always a fun and vibrant vibe. Good, strong drinks, gorgeous bartenders, and always a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Chef Felicidade - Pharmacia

🗺️Rua de Santa Catarina n 2 e n, 4, 1249-069 Lisboa

💶€€-€€€

🕰️Mon, Wed, Fri 1:00p-1:00a, Tues & Thurs 1:00p-12:00a

Technically a restaurant, Chef Felicidade - Pharmacia is fully committed to the old pharmacy theme and has created a really unique and full ambience. While the inside is a really cool vibe, it is the lawn that really drew me in. The view is unbeatable, especially paired with a tincture-themed cocktail and small plate.

CINCO Lounge

A bit “swanky” as far as Lisbon is concerned, but with a chill, non-pretentious vibe. Popped in here for a pre-dinner cocktail.  Beautiful atmosphere and stunning signature cocktails. Definitely worth a visit.

❤️Good Date night

🥬Vegan - Cocktails and Snacks

Awesome little bar with a really cool vibe.  Live music many nights of the week.  Signature cocktails and amazing vegan burgers and snacks. Located in Bairro Alto, The Botanical Den is a great sport to grab a cocktail and bite before starting a night out.

This spot gets busy, for good reason.

Don’t blink, or you will miss Corkie’s Speakeasy. Until I saw it on Google Maps, looking for a different spot, I had no idea it was there - and had passed it dozens of times. With a fantastic cocktail selection and small food menu, Corkie’s is a great little spot to feel like you left the city in the middle of the city.

Wine Bars

As someone who loves and very much appreciates a 3€ bottle of wine from the grocery store and loves a good 5€ sangria from the park, I am not the best resource for wine bars, but am confident there are very few ‘bad’ ones.

I have been to a few during my time in Lisbon, and these were the stand outs:

By the Wine

by the wine, lisbon, lisbon wine bar, Portuguese wine

🗺️ Rua das Flores, 41/43 Lisboa 1200-193

💶 €€–€€

🕰️Open Mon-Th 7p to 12a, Fri-Sat 1p-12a

Huge selection of wines in a beautiful and unique setting. Great pairings from snacks to meals by the course. With a large array of tapas, boards, lunch, and dinner services, this is a great place to stop in at any time of day.

Maria Palato - Wine Bar

🗺️R. da Madalena 120, 1100-323 Lisboa

🕰️Mon-Wed 12:30p-9p, Thurs 12:30-6p, Fri 12:30p-11p

💶€–€€

🌐Maria Palato

This adorable wine bar was near an Airbnb I stayed at and I became a quick regular after popping in just to buy and bottle of wine and ended up staying for two hours. The owners are friendly, knowledgeable and so welcoming. The wine selection is vast, without being overwhelming, and the space is adorable and cozy.

Craft Beer

Over the past few years, Lisbon has really found it’s stride in the craft beer game. There are small breweries and beer halls popping up with some really unique flavors and brews. The beer halls I have visited, have all been a cross between a brewery and a cafe; with a come-and-stay-all day, chill, welcome kind of vibe.

Outro Lado

🗺️Beco do Arco Escuro 1, 1100-585 Lisboa

💶€–€€

🕰️Sun, Wed-Thurs 5p-11p, Fri-Sat 5p-2a, Mon-Tues Closed

🌐Outra Lado

This super cute and cozy taproom features 15 beers on taps and more than 300 beers in cans and bottles to choose from. The bar is tucked away down a little alleyway and can be easy to miss (look for the blue door). The atmosphere is super homey/chill and is the perfect place to have a solo beer (or simple cocktail), catch up with friends, or have a chill date night.

Crafty Corner

🗺️R. de São João da Praça 95, 1100-519 Lisboa

🕰️Daily 12p-12:30a

💶€–€€

🐶Dog friendly

🌐Crafty Corner

Located in an ancient space by the famous Se Cathedral, Crafty Corner’s shared tables, medieval arches and large elegant shop windows make it the perfect place to breathe in the local scenery, socialize with fellow enthusiasts, and taste Portugal's exquisite craft beers.

This was the first craft beer hall that I went to in Lisbon, and I have been back numerous times since. I immediately fell in love with the space, the beer selection is great, bites are delicious, and the rotating beer selection never disappoints.

Duque Brewpub

🗺️Calçada do Duque 51, 1200-156 Lisboa
🕰️Daily 4p-12a

💶€–€€

🐶Dog Friendly

🌐Duke Brewpub (duquebrewpub.com)

This cute, simple brewpub is well worth the climb up the stairs - or is the perfect midpoint to stop and take a break climbing the stairs of Calçada do Duque. With a great selection of beers on tab, friendly bartenders, and a casual setting, Duque Brewpub is a great spot to grab a beer solo, with a group of friends or a casual date night.

Cerveja Canil - Craft Beer

🗺️R. dos Douradores 133, 1100-213 Lisboa (Baixa)

🗺️Rua de Santa Marta 35A (Canil Marquês)

🕰️Mon-Thurs 1p-1a, Fri-Sat 1p-2a, Sun 1p-12a

💶€–€€

🌐Cerveja Canil

1€ happy hour beers. That’s all.

Oh, also! Huge selection of beers, amazing bites (and great happy hour prices), great space, and super friendly service. This is a great place for everything from a solo sip and bite, to meeting up with large group of friends, to a casual date night. Check the website for events and live music.

I have been to both locations, and personally preferred the space at Canil Marques as it is bigger and has more of a brewery feel, but you really can’t go wrong at either.

Don’t let the quaint, little space fool you, for what this place lacks in size it makes up with selection. A fantastic beer menu in a cozy space with live music several nights a week. Good happy hour specials round out the many reasons this spot is worth a visit.
